A rumour that former petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke was dead was debunked late on Thursday. A cancer patient, she has been bedridden in a London hospital since May.

A family member confirmed she was alive, but the family was meeting over her situation.

The mood was different in many parts of the south-east and south-south as news of Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom broke. A court had declared that the SSS had no right to detain him indefinitely.

Kanu, a leader of IPOB (Indigenous People of Biafra) and director of Radio Biafra, was arrested on October 17.
