Obasanjo Says Jonathan Acting Like Gbagbo by Shifting Polls

Former Nigerian leader Olusegun Obasanjo told journalists in his Abeokuta home on Saturday that President Goodluck Jonathan was behaving like Laurent Gbagbo of Ivory Coast who kept shifting election dates until a time he believed he would win.

Those encouraging Jonathan to continue to postpone Nigeria elections would desert him when trouble begins, he stated.

“Gbagbo kept shifting the election date in his country until he was sure of winning, and when the elections came, it resulted in a run-off.  He  not only refused to hand over power upon losing but also unleashed chaos, confusion and crisis on his people until nemesis caught up with him,” Obasanjo said.

According to Obasanjo, Jonathan postponed the elections for fear of what Buhari, if he won, could do to him and others .
Alleging that Jonathan is adopting the delay tactics of former President Gbagbo, he said Jonathan is toying with the future of Nigeria.

In a reaction, the presidency has castigated Obasanjo. presidential spokesman Reuben Abati said Obasanjo was sowing the seeds of chaos so he would be appointed head of an interim government.
