Buhari Speaks to the Nation on Oct. 1

President Muhammadu Buhari will make a nationwide broadcast at 7am on Tuesday, October 1, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 59th independence anniversary, a statement issued by presidential aide Femi Adesina on Monday in Abuja says.

The president is expected to explain the direction of his government at least for the next three years.

National radio and television stations may relay the broadcast several times on Independence Day.

The president’s address must have been recorded well in advance. Print newspapers did not obtain a copy of the speech on the eve, as was the practice in earlier anniversaries.
