Britain Shocks the World, Votes to Leave EU

Results of the referendum conducted in Britain Thursday were being awaited last night. The Britons voted to remain in or leave the European Union.

The result could go either way, as exit polls suggested the two camps were running neck to neck. However, Independence Party leader Nigel Farage has reportedly told SkyNews it appears “Remain” will carry the day.

Prime Minister David Cameron, who appealed to his compatriots to vote to “Remain” in EU, is likely to be elated by the final results of the historic referendum.

UPDATE: The final results show that 52% voted to exit, while 48% voted to remain in the EU. The outcome sent shock waves across the world, with stock markets responding. The British pound fell.

Prime Minister Cameron promptly gave a notice to resign in October.
