Former Army Chief Ihejirika Not Arrested

Reports in some Nigerian newspapers on Thursday that a former  chief of army staff, Gen. Onyeabor Azubike Ihejirika, had been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) since Tuesday were false. Ihejirika was sighted at his Asokoro home on Thursday, and his associates confirmed that nobody invited him for questioning, much less arrested him.

Vanguard, one of the culprits, has already posted a story to refute the earlier one. The Punch and Sahara Reporters have yet to post a counter story or apologise to their readers for misleading them.

It is not known why someone had flown the kite of Ihejirika’s arrest. However, the retired general may still be invited for questioning and perhaps arrested. The EFCC, Eyeway gathered, has confiscated some houses in Abuja traced to him.
