Bayelsa Votes Again

JANUARY 9, 2016 — The governorship election held in Bayelsa State, Nigeria, on December 5, 2015, was declared inconclusive. It will be concluded on January 9. INEC announced the date for the supplementary poll today.

Voting will take place in only one of eight LGAs of Bayelsa: Southern Ijaw. Violence marred the polls on December 5.

Had results from Southern Ijaw not been cancelled, the APC candudate, Timipre Sylva, would have won. Governor Seriake Dickson of the PDP is now leading with just 30, 000 votes. Over 100, 000 votes are up for grabs in Southern Ijaw, a stronghold of the APC candidate.
