Coup: Compaore’s Men Strike in Burkina Faso

Armed soldiers loyal to ousted Burkinabe leader Blaise Compaore Wednesday staged a coup at the presidential palace in Ouagadougou, seizing Prime Minister Col. Isaac Zida, President Michel Kafando and two other ministers.

A transition government has been in place since Compaore’s ouster.

Gunshots were heard around the palace, AFP reported.

Demonstrators have gathered outside the palace, even as the coup plotters have scarred them off.

Elections are billed to take place in the poor West African nation on October 11.
