Lee Kuan Yew: Sept. 16, 1923, to March 23, 2015

The father of modern Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, was reported dead Monday morning. He died peacefully in a hospital in Singapore.
Yew, who was prime minister of Singapore from 1959 to 1990 when he stepped down, transformed his country from a Third World to a First World. Malaysia broke off  Singapore in 1965.
The world will mourn Yew, often cited as an example of what a good leader can do for his country.
His 91st birthday was marked in September last year.
