AshakaCem Plc, the cement manufacturers that are now a full subsidiary of Lafarge SA, on Thursday night elected Malam Suleiman Yahyah its new chairman. Yahyah’s emergence followed the expiration of Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga’s tenure and his stepping down.
The new chairman, Yahyah, sits on the board of several other companies. He is also the chairman of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCo Aviance) as well as the CEO of the Rosehill Group and founder of Asokoro Island, an upcoming luxury estate.
Yahyah, 51, is an Officer of the Order of the Niger, OON.
A statement announcing the change of baton says Ashakacem also made other changes:
“This is to inform the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) that the following Directors and Board Chairman have resigned their appointments from AshakaCem Plc with effect from 10th March, 2015:

- John William Stull -Vice Chairman
- Sen. Muhammed A. Muhammed, OFR
- Kolawole Babalola Jamodu, CFR
- Dr Abubakar Ali Gombe
- Lamido Abba Tukur
- Hamra Imam (Mrs)
“The Board of Directors has appointed Mallam Suleiman Yahyah, OON, as the Board Chairman with effect from 12th March, 2015. The Board also appointed the following as Non-Executive Directors of the company with effect from 12th March, 2015:
- Anders Kristiansson
- Edith Onwuchekwa (Mrs)
- Rabiu Abdullahi Umar
