Friends, admirers and relations are mourning the death of notable writer and columnist Malam Abubakar Gimba on Wednesday, Feb. 25. His burial according to Islamic rites was witnessed by two former Nigerian heads of state and many other influential Nigerians.
Gimba sparked a controversy two years ago when he published a rejoinder to the homily of Catholic Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah of the Sokoto Diocese during the burial of former Kaduna State governor Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa in December 2012. A book based on the homily, Gimba’s rejoinder and reactions to the rejoinder is expected to be launched in Kaduna on March 7. Entitled “A Homily, a Sermon & a Comment: Matters Arising from Yakowa’s Death”, it is edited by Mr Francis Ulal Damina.
