Ebonyi Assembly Moves to Impeach Gov. Elechi

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Friday moved a motion for the impeachment of Governor Martin Elechi. The motion moved by Odefa Odefa was supported by Valentine Okike.

The notice, read at plenary by acting speaker Francis Nwifuru, claims that the governor, who has just three months to complete his eight-year tenure, committed acts of misconduct including misappropriation of funds and undermining the Assembly’s authority.

Eyeway’s investigations show, however, that the move to insult the governor has been prompted by political enemity: during the primaries to pick his successor, he backed the “wrong” candidate, leading to many PDP members joining the opposition Labour Party and the APC.
