Gunmen Kill Scores in Kaduna

Reports from Kaduna State, Nigeria, say no fewer than 66 people were killed by unknown gunmen in Kajuru local government area Friday morning.

The tragedy happened a day before the start of Nigeria’s general election.

The state governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, who recently threatened that foreigners who interfered in the country’s affairs would go back in body bags, reported the incident on his Twitter handle.

The state government, Friday evening, issued a statement saying security agents were on the trail of the assailants. Spokesman of the governor of Kaduna State Samuel Aruwan, who signed the statement, did not provide details of the incident, but he noted that the dead included 22 children and 12 women

Other credible sources say, however, that the number of casualties is more than 100. Government has warned against any reprisal attacks. Kajuru LGA is in southern Kaduna.
