Chief Nduka Eya, former secretary-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, was Thursday abducted in his home in Enugu.
The hoodlums were said to have requested N15m as ransom.
The police have, however, moved in and arrested the criminals and rescued Chief Eya within 36 hours.
Eya was also a commissioner for education in the old Anambra State.
