Boko Haram Bombs Adamawa Market, Kills Scores

Twin bomb blasts ripped through Madagali Market in Adamawa State, about noon on Friday, killing no fewer than 60 innocent people. The death toll is sure to rise, as more than 200 others were injured, many critically.

The chairman of Madagali LGA, Yusuf Muhammed, told NAN that 56 people died and 177 injured in the blasts.

Madagali Market holds on Fridays, and the two blasts occurred at the grains and second-hand clothes sections of the market.

The council boss appealed to the federal, state governments, relevant donors and humanitarian agencies to come to the aid of the people.

The wounded were rushed to hospitals in Mubi and Yola.

The blasts attributed to Boko Haram terrorists give the lie to claims by the Nigerian Army and the federal government that had claimed defeat of the group. Two days ago, the army said Boko Haram had been restricted to Sambisa Forest.

While the terrorists kill and maim in Adamawa, soldiers have been drafted to relatively peaceful south-east in an operation called “Python Dance”. Soldiers are also living in the south-south; they are conducting elections in Rivers State tomorrow.
