Ese Oruru to Meet Parents Tuesday

A 14-year-old girl, Ese Oruru, who was kidnapped from her state Bayelsa by one Yinusa and forcefully taken to Kano State for marriage without her parents’ consent eight months ago, has been freed following a public outcry after her plight was published by The Punch newspaper. She is expected to reunite with her parents in Abuja on Tuesday, before they go back to Bayelsa State.

Emir of Kano Muhammed Sanusi II, just back from the hajj, gave the directive.

The Nigeria police led by IGP Solomon Arase was forced to act as human rights groups descended on the institution. Yet, many are asking for punishment for all the offenders including Yinusa who forced the little girl to become a Muslim.

The penalty for kidnapping is death by hanging.
