The speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr Aniekan Uko, has lost his job, courtesy of the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja. On Tuesday, the court nullified Uko’s election on account of non-compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act.
The appellate court presided over by Justice Moshood Oredola-Abdulrahman ordered INEC to conduct a fresh election in the Ibesikpo-Asutan constituency.
The Legislative House Election Petitions Tribunal for Akwa Ibom had ruled that Uko of the PDP was not validly elected in the April 11, 2015, poll because of electoral violence and malpractice.
