Nigerians who died in the Saudi hajj stampede of Thursday included veteran editor Hajiya Bilkisu Yusuf and Professor Tijani Almiskin. Yusuf was the first woman from northern Nigeria to become the editor of New Nigerian newspaper. Almiskin was a professor of Islamic studies, University of Maiduguri.
No fewer than 717 people died in the stampede. Over 900 others were injured.
