NAFDAC has banned drinking or selling of the local gin called “Ogogoro” throughout Nigeria.
The gin has been implicated in scores of deaths recently in Ondo and Rivers states.
Apparently, ethanol used in making the favourite drink of mainly the poor contained methanol, a dangerous chemical, in places fatalities were recorded.
The NAFDAC ban is not likely to be effective.
