NLC Election Marred by Hooliganism

On the third day of its conference meant to elect new leaders, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) could not conclude its poll. Hooliganism took over, as accusations of vote rigging and bribery led to a disruption of the election in Abuja on Thursday.
Ballot boxes were broken and electoral materials were thrown on the floor of the International Conference Centre, venue of the congress.
That was the situation until security agents stepped in.
Abdulwaheed Omar is going out as NLC president. Aspirants to his position were Igwe Achese, president of NUPENG; Ayuba Wabba, president of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria; and Joe Ajaero, general secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees.
