All that the marathon meetings held between INEC chieftains and party leaders and among INEC chiefs produced on Saturday night was a confirmation of a hint already in the public domain: that the Nigeria elections originally scheduled for Feb. 14 and 28 will now hold on March 28 and April 11.
The volte face will do damage to the finances of many families that have already relocated to their home states. All plans for the Feb. elections have been shattered; new ballot papers will be reprinted.
INEC chairman Attahiru Jega blamed the shift on requests made by military authorities.
