A court martial has sentenced 54 Nigerian soldiers to death for mutiny. The soldiers would be the second batch to be sentenced to death by firing squad for refusing to obey orders from their commanders in the fight against Boko Haram in the north-east Nigeria. The first batch was convicted in August.

Almost at the same time, Boko Haram chieftain Abubakar Shekau appeared in a new video, vowing to kill Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II and others he called “false” Muslims.
