Ahead of his 80th birthday on Oct. 19, former military head of state Gen. Yakubu Gowon was honoured on Tuesday. At the 2014 Annual Conference & Awards of LEADERSHIP, Gowon received award as the LEADERSHIP Person of the Year 2013.
Lagos State governor Babatunde Fashola , as keynote speaker on the occasion chaired by Vanguard publisher Sam Amuka, delivered a lecture on “Rebuilding the Nation: Lessons from Other Lands”.
Former military leader Ibrahim Babangida had indicated his intention to attend, but he did not.
Other award recipients included Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State (LEADERSHIP Governor of the Year), the G-7 governors, minister of agriculture Dr Akinwumi Adesina, Nasir el-Rufai and Stephen Keshi.
