The deadline for Boko Haram and its terrorist activities to end has been shifted several times by Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan.
While making the promise in September, however, the president was more careful than he had been in the past. At least on two previous occasions in the last two years, he had set a deadline for terrorist activities in the country to expire only for the deadly gang to step up its attacks as the deadline approached.
As at Nov. 11, the new deadline is “soon”; even the gang’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, has appeared in a new video claiming it had successfully established a caliphate in north-east Nigeria.
There is no assurance that terrorist attacks would end even in 2015.
