Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Abubakar Saad III, who is the leader of Muslims in Nigeria, announced the date for the festival. The moon was sighted on September 24.
The Muslim faithful will exchange gifts of ram meat and more. Nigeria’s political leaders – president, governors and leaders of the legislature – will be falling over themselves to send congratulatory messages to Muslims.
