Senator Okey Ezea Begins Final Journey

For burial on Feb. 13

The burial rites of Senator Okechukwu Cleophas Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District, are set to commence on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, says a press release signed by Mr Ike Abonyi, chairman of the media sub-committee of the Senator Okey Ezea Burial Committee.

The release continues:

“The National Burial Committee under the leadership of Senator Victor Umeh has confirmed that the body of the late Senator will be interred in his hometown Itchi in the Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State on Friday, February 13, 2026.

“A requiem Mass will take place in Abuja at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, on February 3, at 3pm, followed by a Night of Tributes at the National Ecumenical Centre, Central Area, Abuja, starting at 5pm. On Wednesday, February 4, his remains will lie in state at the Senate Chamber for a valedictory session during which his colleagues in the Senate and other members of the 10th National Assembly will pay their last respects.

“A second Night of Tributes will occur on Tuesday, February 10, at the Presidential Hotel, Enugu, at 5pm. Then, on Thursday, February 12, a Vigil Mass/wake will be held at Senator Ezea’s compound in Itchi, Igbo-Eze South LGA.

“The burial ceremony will be conducted on Friday, February 13, after a Funeral Mass to be led by the Catholic bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Reverend Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, accompanied by numerous other clergy people from various denominations including Catholic, Anglican and Pentecostal.

“On Saturday, February 14, the Senator’s family will receive condolences, and, on Sunday, a Thanksgiving Mass will be held at St. Christopher Catholic Church, Itchi.

“The burial committee calls upon the public to join in honouring Senator Ezea with the farewell he rightfully deserves.

“Senator Ezea passed on November 18, 2025, after a brief illness. Until his death, he held the senatorial mandate of the people of the old Nsukka zone which he won under the Labour Party in 2023.”
